The training was splitted in two goals. Goal one was training sessions by Prof. Moncef Krarti from University of Colorado at Boulder. Goal two was discussion and sharing session between Professor Krarti and participants with goal was several draft of publication papers related to building energy. The first day of the two days training began with opening by moderator, Laksana Gema Perdamaian. It continued by presentation by Prof. Krarti. Session 1: Integrated Approaches of Designing and Retrofitting Energy Systems for Sustainable Built Environment. This session was also brodcasted as webinar. Bridging session: Group discussion on research and publication plan Session 2: Economic Analysis of Energy Projects The second day: Session 3: Building Energy Analysis Approaches and Applications Session 4: Simulation Analysis Tools for Building Energy Efficiency
- The participants got knowledges from US Scholar related to building energy topic - Several topic of collaboration publication papers had been proposed The training and the series of presentations on high performance buildings and net-zero energy buildings have been generally well received and have been well attended and organized. In addition, several potential research collaborations between UCB and its Indonesain partners on the areas of energy analysis of building systems have been identified and initiated.
The challenge in this training was the participants came from various background, not only from background related to energy or building. The committee had anticipated earlier before the registration of the participants by adding requirement that the candidates from earlier training with the same topic would be prioritized. However, some participants background still not fit to the topic, for example from fisheries and marines. The main challenge includes the diverse background of the partners and trainees from various disciplines and institutions. It was partticularly challenging to train all the scholars during the same session. In the future, it may be better to deliver different training sessions in different universities depending on the background and the interest of the scholars in each uninversity.
The main lesson is to ensure that the training be adapted to the need for a set of scholars that have interest and knowledge in one specific topic of sustainable development and themes of the project. It may be also to limit the visit to 1 or 2 universities during one UCB scholar visit. The training was held close to the feast of Eid al-Adha for Muslims. This made participants less comfortable because of the tradition in Indonesia that the celebration of the holiday should be at home. In response, the committee held this training in accordance with the ability and time availability of the US Scholar so that the timing was also influenced by US affiliates. As learning in the next implementation, timing will be considered.
From this training, there are several proposed topic for next papers collaboration. It should be followed by online mentoring process between Prof Krarti and each topic group so it will contribute to other activity of CDSR program. It is important to inform all the scholars listed as the Beneficiaries and who attended the training session about their commitment to complete specific research project. The scholars who completed the required tasks would be encouraged to visit UCB by early 2019 to further discuss their work with their US partners.
