CCR ARI UNPAD conducted Short Training on Introduction to Biostatistics in order to fill in the gap on the capacity of faculties to analyze data. In UNPAD, particularly, there are limited resource person with expertise in Biostatistics. There was much enthusiam for this training, even several of the participants already hold a doctoral, but insist to participate in the training. We designed the training for a maximum 30 participants. There are some persons who interested to join the short course but not able to participate due to full quota. However, unfortunately, less than 30 came to the event. 2 participants had to cancel suddenly and 2 others were a no-show. Prior to the training we had already sent an email to all participants as a confirmation and reminder about the event, however this still occurred. It might be best to contact participants through their personal phone number to make sure. In terms of content development, the preparation ran smoothly since most of the materials were already part of the clinical research program activity for medical students. The training was held for 3 days. On the first day of activity the participants were given a pre-test which was adapted from the semester exam of medical students. The pre-test aims to refresh participant's knowledge on the basic terminologies and concepts of biostatistics. Afterwards, lectures followed on the topic of variables and descriptive statistics. The lecture used examples from research articles to make it practical. In the afternoon, participants exercised descriptive statistics using SPSS. Participants varied on their familiarity on SPSS and wer active to discuss any challenges in completing the exercise. On the second day, dr. Panji, one of the resource person and dr. Mulya, a facilitator, was ill but the event was still manageble by dr. Kurnia and the other facilitators. The second day discussed more difficult topics. On the third day, the participants conducted exercise on different data set. Here, they worked with each other to process tasks given. We had a problem in which the facilitators were not able to join the training because teaching obligation at the Jatinangor campus. Therefore dr. Kurnia had to manage and assist the participants by himself.
The training was held for 3 days. On the first day of activity the participants were given a pre-test which was actually developed from the semester exam of medical students. The pre-test aims to refresh participant's knowledge on the basic terminologies and concepts of biostatistics.
There were some challenges that we faced : 1. Participants --> Three participants did not register to the event but contacted us to participate. They explained that usually the department's secretary managed all the administrative process, however it was not the case for our training. Therefore these participants were not able to participate in our training. --> This event was intended for faculties that have not yet completed a doctoral education, however several insists to partake in the training. --> 4 participants who have registered, did not come to the training. 2 person cancelled suddenly for personal reasons. This occured, even after we had reminded them through email. This was unfortunate because many people wanted to join but couldn't because of the full quota. 2. Venue During the morning session, problem occured because the meeting room just next to ours was very noisy and disturbed our session. This problem continued up to the first coffee break. After heated discussion with the venue organizers, the problem resolved. It turns out there was a gap in the partition separating both rooms. 3. Committee During the hands-out session, only one out of three were present in the training. This was due to facilitators had to manage lab activity for bachelor students at the Jatinangor campus. Dr. Kurnia eventually managed to assist.

This training should be conducted again in the future. Some materials needed longer time than others and the hands on session was considered pivotal for the success of the training.
