This short training aims to guide faculty members on the process of converting their conventional 'classroom' teaching into an e-learning model, particularly Massive Open Online Course. This activity was in collaboration with e-learning UNPAD team. The participants are teaching team from departements within the Faculty of Medicine UNPAD with prepared material for MOOC. Our target participant are 45 people, around 15-16 teaching team (consists of 2-3 persons per team). The trainings are conducted in 3 seperate days : August 20th, 27th and September 3rd, 2018. The first theme of the training was made into an Open Lecture, titled "Implementing e-learning for Medical Studies".
Monday, August 20th 2018 The event was officially opened by the Dean of FMUP, stating the need to integrate e-learning in the medical curriculum. The activitiy started with an open lecture, scheduled for 08. 00 - 09. 30 am, however on implementation the open lecture started 08. 15 and finished 10. 45. The open lecture was attended by 42 participants. Afterwards, participants registered for the short training continued the session until 14. 30. This short training session was attended by 20 people. On this first day participants was given basic materials on the pedagogy of MOOC and LMS. Participants expressed that the material was quite difficult to understand at first because there were many technical terms used. However, they showed interest to develop MOOC for their material. Monday, August 27th 2018 A total of 15 team registered to be a part of the MOOC training. However, it turns out that the 27th of August was the first day of undergraduate term at the Jatinangor Campus. Several of the lecturers participating in the training had to be in Jatinangor campus on that day. Another obstacle we faced was that several participants who were clinician in the hospital conducted their department rounds on Monday, so not all were able to come on time. In addition, we also had 8 new participants recommended by the Rector. They were intern lecturers from health colleges. On this day we practice to design sylabus for the MOOC and develop means of assessments for the lesson. Monday, September 3rd 2018 In this session there were participants from the 2nd session that could not attend the 3rd, since they have tutorial duties at Jatinangor. In turn, they sent another of their colleague to attend for them. For the third day we learned about script and storyboarding. Participants also had the opportunity to try out video shooting and using ISpring application for ppt video recording.
On the preparation step, this event was planned 2 weeks before, however there were problems with out invitatitioin letter for the department. In which the Dean's office has not yet distributed the invitation letter departments until 1 working day before event. therefore several particpants had just known about the event in the weekends and was not possible to suddenly change their schedule. However, most showed commitment to come
1) We started out assuming there was adequate time to disseminate information about the event, however there was some administration problem at the dean office, in which our invitation letter to the departments had just been sent out less than a week before our event. 2) Another problem we faced was the day of the training, which is Monday. Monday, in particular, was not an ideal day to conduct events since for most of the undergraduate lecturers have duties in Jatinangor and clinical staff conduct their major rounds and meetings on Monday. We propose for future events to be held on Wednesday or Thursday.
Follow up of this activity to prepare material for future MOOC course.
