This activity is well organized in 3 days Training (2-4 July 2018) at Aquaculture Department, University of Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara. The target of this activity was attended by 24 scholars/beneficiaries. Meanwhile, actual beneficiaries in this activity were 20 scholars, consist of scholars from Lead who participate in this activity are 2 scholars, while the affiliate researcher from University of Matam are 18 scholars. Participants both from lead and affiliates (University of Mataram) are scholars with minimum education of Masters Degree or who are being PhD Student. The training had divided into three sections: Introduction, Theory, and Practical Sessions. The method used in this activity is presentation method with question and answer session. On the third day, we held a Practical Session with resource person (Dr. Christopher Evans lane and Dr. Mahrus) in Laboratory. Resource persons in this Training are: 1. Dr. Christopher Evans Lane - Introduction to Molecular Ecology and Molecular Methods in Ecology and Evolution - DNA Barcoding - DNA Metabbarcoding and Environmental DNA (e DNA) - PCR & DNA Sequencing 2. Dr. rer. nat Hawis Madduppa, S. Pi., M. Si - Population Genetic Structure - Phylogenetic Tree - Case Studies on Marine Biodiversity Research using DNA Approach 3. Dr. Drs. H. Mahrus, M. Si - Processing for DNA Sequence Using Bioinformatic Program: DNA Sequence Alignment, and DNA Analysis - Editing Sequence and Primer Design - Case Studies: Genetic Research in Lombok Dr. Lane leads a genomics lab at URI focusing on marine biodiversity of lower trophic level organisms (e. g., algae) and has an extensive publication record from work in numerous countries. He and his lab are experienced in all field and lab techniques. Dr. Madduppa & Dr. Mahrus are experts in genetic works and have long experience in genetic analysis of marine organisms.
1. Beneficiaries understand and improved the major theoritical knowledge on the uses of DNA Barcoding and DNA Profiling in coral reef studies 2. Beneficiaries have a sound methodology/skills in sample handling, from the field to DNA preparation works 3. Beneficiaries have a sound understanding and improved of knowledge and skills in statistical analysis of data from DNA Barcoding and DNA Profiling.
Some schedules have to be delayed for a few minutes (15-30 minutes) due to the delivery of material beyond the time limit.
Participants got a lot of useful knowledge about DNA Barcoding-Metabarcoding and DNA Profiling. They thank to CCR ANBIOCORE as a committee for the Training at University of Mataram
The knowledge from Training of DNA Barcoding will be used in learning to student at Aquaculture Department, University of Mataram
