SMART CITY is working with the National Ministry of Internal Affairs to create an instrument to assess local and regional government's readiness for smart city development in Indonesia. SMART CITY has hired an expert on Economic Development to become the lead researcher and PT Pajon will also collaborate on the website development for the instrument. The activity was initiated in 2018 by the National Ministry Directorate of Regional Autonomy, and discussion continued until April 2019. In January, the activity was planned to be continued from March to June 2020. This meeting was intended to boost the progress for June outcome.
The ministry intends to start the implementation from cities that are ready for R&D testing such as Semarang, Banyuwangi, and Sidoarjo. The ministry will help introduce the product to the governing bodies. The assessment instrument will refer to the national standardized ISU for Sustainable Community Development for urban services and quality of life. SMART CITY will work with PT Pajon to develop a web-based application for the assessment instrument, similar with Green Metric's website. The team will meet with Green Metric for interface and back-end references. A regular FGD will be conducted for progress checking and the National Ministry will be invited for standard check and implementation requirement.
The national ministry had previously developed the assessment, however, the result could not be implemented because the assessment context did not match with Indonesian cities'. Therefore, SMART CITY suggests that an FGD with BSN should be conducted in the future to evaluate the result with the previous assessment.
