There were six (6) academic writing experts from University of Indonesia and one (1) (Dr. Silver) from partner university in the United States (U. S. ) invited to deliver lessons and to mentor all participants in revising the draft of the articles/papers which will be submitted to Scopus - indexed international journal/proceeding. The experts were professors and lectures whose expertise indicated by its authorship's h-index of at least 5. There were 59 participants attended the workshop. We targeted 60 participants from UI (20), UNPAD (10), UNDIP (10), UNUD (10), & UNSRI (10) joining this activity. One person withdrew from the Short Course due to urgent assignment. The majority of participants were faculty members with total of 37 and the rest are graduate and postgraduate students. Participants are from various filed of study: medical, nursing, technology of agricultural industry, social and political science, communication, dentistry, cultural science, urban and regional planning, environmental science, environmental engineering, chemistry science, chemistry engineering, and tourism. On the first day, five (5) experts including Dr. Silver gave presentations to cover the following substances: 1) Introduction to Academic Writing, 2) Structure of Science and Technology Research Paper. On the second day participants were divided into seven (7) groups of mentors, according to the suitability of their paper/article drafts with the mentor's expertise. Dr. Silver, for example, mentored eleven (11) participants who have written research paper on: sustainable regional development; urban housing infrastructure; policy and technology; live-able urban environment; and urban healthcare services. Each participant presented its respective draft paper to the mentor and further to that could directly have a consultation with the mentor to gather inputs for improving the draft. The mentor would as well provide further insight to the group on the approach to improve techanically and substantially the draft paper with respect to the research topic.
Each of the participants brought the draft of an article that could be shaped into a publishable product. The first day of the short course involved a series of presentations about strategies for getting published, the structure of publishable articles, and other suggests about how to frame and structure the content.
No real challenges because all of the participants followed the guidelines to bring an article to be worked on.
Participants expressed satisfaction with both the presentations on publishing strategies and article structure, and especially valued the one-on-one support from the mentors to help with article revisions.
Mentor Dr. Silver encouraged the participants in his work group to send him copies of their revised articles for further advice if they desired.
